Charities We Support

El Molino del Sol donates its net profit (as defined below) to two charities providing emotional support to people in distress — one in the UK and one in Spain.

The Samaritans (UK)

Samaritans UK Logo

The Samaritans is a UK charity offering round-the-clock emotional support to anyone struggling to cope, experiencing despair, or at risk of suicide. Their volunteers provide confidential, non-judgemental listening and answer millions of contacts every year.

La Llamada de Esperanza (Spain)

Teléfono de la Esperanza Logo

La Llamada de Esperanza is a Spanish organisation offering anonymous and confidential emotional support via telephone to people facing loneliness, crisis, or emotional distress.

Our Transparency Commitment

We believe pilgrims deserve complete clarity about how charitable donations work at El Molino del Sol.

Definition of Net Profit

We donate 100% of the Net Profit from pilgrim accommodation. Net Profit is defined as all revenue from pilgrim accommodation minus:

  • all VAT, taxes and social security payments
  • all operating costs
  • a hypothetical annual minimum wage for the owner (approx. €18,000)
  • a hypothetical 5% annual interest cost on capital expenses including capital to purchase and renovate the property

Current Profit Status

At present, El Molino del Sol does not generate Net Profit. We took over in 2026 and have plans to create Net Profit. Until this changes, we make donations personally from our own private income to support the same charities.

Santiago for Samaritans

In 2023, the owner of El Molino del Sol completed the Camino Francés, raising around €20,000 for The Samaritans. During the final stage, she was joined and supported by her husband and sons.

We are developing a system to help future pilgrims walk the Camino to raise money for either The Samaritans or La Llamada de Esperanza. Volunteers who wish to help us develop this initiative are warmly encouraged to speak with us.
